Increase Pagerank | Does It Matter?
“Momma Google found out and gave us a whoopin’!”
In the past, Google use to give websites and pages a certain numerical Pagerank value called the PR value. This Pagerank was widely base on the amount of inbound links to your page; the more inbound links you could produce to increase Pagerank, the better your Pagerank would be. To increase Pagerank, all it took was a few minutes a day to do some backlink (inbound link) building.
To Increase Pagerank or Not To Increase Pagerank?
Today, there exists numerous amounts of sites and tools that allow you to see the Pagerank value for your site. However, after performing backlink building to increase Pagerank, you may not see a hike in rank for several months! You should understand that the number value itself is a logarithmic value, which means that there’s little difference within the Pagerank values. For instance, there is very little difference in a Pagerank of 1.2 and 1.8 but a huge difference between 6.2 and 6.9.
Years ago, hundreds of thousands of people have tried increasing their Pagerank value by going out there and creating inbound links to their sites. It was ridiculous, you could find sites that had a plethora of inbound links that they acquired to increase Pagerank. Well, needless to say, momma Google found out and gave us a whoopin’! Pagerank is no longer something that can be manipulated by the developer’s mob. The Pagerank algorithm pulls information from millions and billions of previous search queries, which are impossible to tamper with or distort, and also use the many indexing systems and rating systems resources that Google has.
To Increase Pagerank Doesn’t Matter!
As a final note, you should have gathered that Pagerank itself has little to no value whatsoever. Don’t bother with ways to increase Pagerank cause it really doesn’t matter much anymore. You shouldn’t worry about that number anyway; the point here is to focus on producing quality content and useful informative and authoritative subject matter. Write helpful and useful content and make sure you perform SEO on your pages so they are indexed correctly.

I agree that google pagerank is not easily manipulated like it used to be. It was once like a badge of honor to have PR 5 or above. I have 2 sites that are PR 5’s and they were both PR 6 then google did there downgrade and they came down one. It did not effect my traffic at all as I am always on the 1st page for the keywords I target. PR rank will help you achieve this but it is not neccessary as you said. Well written article.

Very good article. Why so many people are obsessed with page rank I will never know. Perhaps it is to impress some CEO for ads revenue or something.
But just like you say, we should concentrate more on quality content. Do this and the links will come and the page rank will increase. Trust the system.
I have written a similar post. Would appreciate your and the rest of the guys and gals comments.

BTW. First comment submission did not seem to post. If it did and is moderated, I was not informed. A bit of a concern and a bit confusing. So here I am posting this comment again. If it is a duplicate, just delete/

I love how people become so obsessed by one element of search engine optimization. You’ll find some people that are checking their page rank everyday, worried that it may slip. You have others that are all about link building and nothing else. SEO is a combination of factors and when you concentrate on getting the fundamentals right, the rest will naturally fall into place overtime.
I look forward to reading more of your work.
